Montini Catholic High School in Lombard is proud to announce senior Joe Spaccapaniccia as their April Student of the Month. Joe, a homeroom captain in Math Chair/teacher, Mrs. Chrissy McManus' class, was nominated by her for enthusiastically representing Montini Catholic's Lasallian mission of zeal and touching hearts through his service, academic and athletic endeavors at Montini.
A humbled and surprised Joe, admits he never thought too much about being chosen as a student of the month. Involvement, however, is a word that has been in his vocabulary since becoming a Bronco. He is a member of the Bronco Varsity Basketball team, earning Academic All Conference honors for all four years on the team - and was most recently named an Academic All Star at Montini - earning Illinois State Scholar status and ranking amongst the top 10% of Illinois high school students. Joe is a member of the National Honor Society, and competes on the Math Team, helping to take his Broncos to a Regional Championship this spring and a 7th Place finish at State in April. He has worked hard to earn his spot in Montini's Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society.
"Joe gives 100% in every endeavor, whether it be basketball, math team, homeroom captain, super fan supporting MCHS teams, or his classes," said Mrs. McManus, who couldn't say enough good things about her nominee. It's been his work as Homeroom Captain that has truly impressed Mrs. McManus. "I handle all of the collections that we have during homeroom. This includes mission collections or collecting and turning in money for dress down days which raises money for various charities," explained Joe. He counts among his favorite service projects as a student at Montini Catholic - the times his National Honor Society groups traveled to Feed My Starving Children to pack food for international children in need. "I really enjoy being able to do service with my classmates."
"Joe has a positive and fun-loving attitude that is infectious. He is energetic and involved. He has been one of the best homeroom captains that I have ever had; he takes pride in collecting for missions, wrapping presents for Adopt-a-Family, hiding the "elf on a shelf" daily during December, and so much more," said McManus. "In class I can pair him with anyone - he gets along with, and is friendly with everyone. He is smart, yet humble. We need more Joe Spaccapaniccias in our world!"
