Johnny Weiger was a member of the Montini Catholic Class of 2015. Johnny was an outstanding academic student who was a young man of deep faith and of the highest moral character. Johnny was also a talented football player and a member of the freshman football team. He loved Montini Catholic, traveling from Plainfield to attend our school each day. He was passionate about the Broncos as well as Notre Dame football. His dream, after graduating from MCHS, was to attend the University of Notre Dame and play for the Irish.

During Johnny's freshman year, he was diagnosed with leukemia. After undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and a bone marrow transplant, the leukemia was cured. Johnny was preparing to begin his sophomore year at Montini Catholic when he was hospitalized in August with a rare blood disorder, commonly referred to as TTP, that can be caused by a bone marrow transplant.

Johnny was hospitalized throughout the first two and a half months of his sophomore year. On November 4, 2012, Johnny passed away due to complications from the TTP. Throughout his battle with leukemia and TTP, Johnny displayed the "spirit of a champion" - showing great courage, fight and a deep commitment to his faith. Throughout the football season, the Broncos and the MCHS community adopted the saying "Johnny Always Wins" - a saying that was displayed on orange wristbands, candy wrappers, t-shirts and banners. That saying extended way beyond the Montini Catholic community, as players and fans from grade schools, high schools, colleges and professional football teams heads and read about Johnny's story. Orange wristbands were seen in so many places - all showing that "Johnny Always Wins". May continue to wear the orange today to honor Johnny's spirit and fight of a champion.

Even though Johnny passed away in the early stages of the 2012 football state playoffs, Johnny's spirit was with the team and its fan base throughout the Broncos' journey to win the school's fourth consecutive IHSA Class 5A State Football Championship. Johnny's spirit, character, faith and sportsmanship will always be remembered at Montini Catholic.

In memory of Johnny, a memorial scholarship fund has been established. Each year, an incoming freshman who displays high moral character, a deep commitment to his/her faith and has achieved academic excellence at the grade school level, will be awarded this annual scholarship. Please help us keep the spirit of Johnny alive by making a gift to the Johnathan Weiger '15 Memorial Scholarship Fund.
