Montini Catholic's Chapter of the Tri M (Modern Music Masters) Music Honor Society hosted their 2nd No Shave November event this fall. Faculty members volunteered to go the entire month of November without shaving - all in the name of charity. Prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, students were invited to vote for the teacher who they believed 'grew the best beard' during the month-long challenge.
"Students voted with money," said Mr. Donald Glowinski, who conceived the contest in order to raise funds for music charities. "Coins equaled positive votes and bills equaled negative votes!" In the end it was English teacher, Mr. Ben Tripp, who earned the most coins. His prize was deciding which charity the money would be donated to. He chose Education Through Music, a foundation that partners with under-resourced schools to provide music as a core subject for all children, and utilizes music education as a catalyst to improve overall achievement, motivation for school, and self-confidence. The second phase to the contest, however, has proven to be the greatest motivating factor for the students to cast their votes.
The faculty member with the least amount of votes was made to sing a Christmas tune (Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" ) during the school's morning announcements. Math teacher, Mr. Don Krystof, accepted this honor reluctantly and entertained 'fans' on Tuesday, November 29th.
Montini's Tri-M Music Society were excited to make the contest an annual event.
